Originally Known as Macy's Christmas Parade. The Thanksgiving Day Parade was started by Macy's employees and featured animals from Central Park Zoo!!! It was sucha rousing success that Macy's declared it would be an annual event!!!

Enjoy the 85th Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on November 24, 2011 at 9 a.m.
The parade travel route will start at Central Park West from 77th Street to
Columbus Circle along Central Park South to 7th Avenue, down 7th Avenue to
42nd Street, along 42nd Street to 6th Avenue, down 6th Avenue to 34th Street and along 34th Street to Macy's Herald Square.
The parade is popular and continues to amaze viewers of all ages. We recommend In order to get a good viewing spot arrive before 6:30 a.m. the morning of the parade to claim your perfect spot along the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade route.
Don't forget to pack according to the weather and be sure to wear plenty of warm clothes and bring goodies necessary for waiting such as hot coco or coffee and possibly some light snacks.
The duration of the parade depends on where you view it from. Near the beginning of the route, it will last about 1 1/2 hours and closer to Macy's, the parade will last about 3 hours.
Also a thrilling experience is watching the balloons come to life! Watch the balloons as they get blown up, on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 you can observe the inflation of the 25 balloons from 3 - 10 p.m. near the American Museum of Natural History just off Central Park West between 77th St. and 81st St.
